I am a First Aid trainer and Outdoor Adventure Instructor. My primary skill as a First Aid trainer is communication and I pride myself on being able to deliver information in accessible, memorable and applicable ways. I always attempt to personalise my courses, ensuring the students have had the opportunity to test relevant scenarios and think practically and creatively about how they would deal with likely issues at their workplace. My work as an Instructor (mostly in white water paddling and caving) requires strong First Aid skills; ability to work under pressure and knowledge to help my clients understand what they need to do in emergency situations. Being a First Aid trainer is relevant every day at my job! I can deliver all First Aid at Work courses, Paediatric First Aid and AED training. I have been entrusted to deliver First Aid for staff for all the Work Experience below, as well as working as a freelance trainer across the UK, including for large scale London theatres, events venues and catering companies.

I was a Police Officer for 30 years and am passionate about helping and teaching others. I have wide experience in teaching both general and specialist skills during this time. For the last 8 years of service I taught and assessed First Aid skills, personal safety/self-defence skills, conflict management and resolution. I enjoy working both individually and as part of a team. I have strong communication skills and can engage effectively at all levels with many types of individuals. Since retirement I have worked on both a self-employed basis & for the St John Ambulance as a First Aid trainer.

I first began teaching nearly 20 years ago, whilst managing Health Clubs in London where my intention was to initially train my staff but soon began to facilitate training for several awarding organisations such as Nuco, Highfield, etc. In 2007, I changed career and location to the Dover area where I work full-time for the emergency services. I have continued to deliver first aid training but now on a more restricted timeframe to approx. 1-2 per month, as I have a 7-month-old daughter who takes up much of my free time. Formerly a volunteer Community First Responder with Secamb, I also have a fair amount of front line ‘hands on’ experience with first aid application. As a Nuco registered instructor I’m able to tutor the usual First Aid courses, with my equipment including 4 adult manakins, 3 junior manakins, 4 baby manakins (all Laerdal models), 4 training AED’s and a choking vest. I have also recently attended and passed the Mental Health First Aid Instructor course as well as the Outdoors First Aid Instructors course. Teaching qualifications include PTLLS and DTLLS, and the old A1 Assessor award. I’m a big believer in First Aid should be affordable to all and regularly support local groups such as ‘Community First Responders’ deliver free training to local communities, upon their successful raising funds for an AED unit.
